Hong Kong!

We began the last leg of Melladora's epic Asia trip in Hong Kong  (Tokyo->Okinawa->Hong Kong), a short 2.5 hr flight away.  Hong Kong (香港 Heūng Góng in Cantonese, meaning Fragrant Harbour) is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China.  It's vibrant; it's fast-paced; a mix of "east meets west" with a beautiful skyline as it's backdrop.  The city has multiple personalities with it's history under British colonization for 150 years (given back to China in 1997) and also being part of China, proudly proclaiming itself to be Asia's World City.  After a quick taxi ride from the airport, we checked into the Holiday Inn on Hong Kong island.  Famished, we enjoyed happy hour and a nice Thai dinner at our hotel.

The last leg of our trip was Shanghai for NYE 2015. #gottacelebrateinstyle #wanderlust #travelers   We had an early flight from Xi'an and arrived in Shanghai around 10/11am.  We took the subway to our hotel, the Marriott located near The Bund (neighborhood), and it only took an hour and a half ;)  For those who know my dad, the original Whittey world traveler, he has stayed in this hotel a few times - so kind of fun following my dad's footsteps :) #likefatherlikedaughter #lovethatdude

Our next stop on our China adventure is the city of Xi'an!  We had an early morning flight from Beijing and arrived in Xi'an around 10am.  We booked a private tour to take us around for the day, so we were promptly picked up from the airport and driven to another one of our bucket list spots: the Terra Cotta Warriors.

On our second full day in Beijing we visited the Great Wall of China!  We went to the Mutianyu section which is about 3 km long, houses 26 watchtowers, and was built during the early Ming dynasty.  We 'hiked' from watchtower 6 to watchtower 15.  Lucky for us, since it had snowed the day before, the smog had cleared up and we had a beautiful sunny day!  We took a chairlift up to the top and got to toboggan down!  (link to a youtube video I found of someone also doing this is posted below in case you want to see what it's like.  Start about 1:50 in)
