On a hot summer day in Okinawa during Memorial Day weekend, we decided to drive up north to Tadake Falls to go hiking with our dogs and neighbors.

After our awesome weekend in Tokyo, we were excited to show Mel our new, tropical home! First stop on the way home, American Village. Here we showed Mel some of our favorite watering holes, the beach, and some restaurants. We enjoyed some mojitos on the beach while taking in the beautiful views of the East China Sea, followed by a late lunch at a tasty Indian spot, Bollywood Dreams.
To keep up with our tradition, we wanted to take a trip for Nate's birthday. We decided on Ishigaki island (and it's surrounding islands), which is a short 45 minute flight away from Okinawa, and part of the Ryukyu Island chain that Okinawa is a part of.
Once we arrived at the Ishigaki Airport, we took a short bus ride to the Ferry terminal, and hopped on a ferry to the less populated Iriomote-jima (jima is Japanese for 'island'). On a sunny day in January, Nate and I decided to go explore this beautiful island some more. I had read about a place called "Happy Cave". Read below for more
In October, Nate and I decided to explore the island a bit more. One of our weekends we went to go check out the popular Hiji Falls. It's a pretty easy hike, about 2 km into the waterfall and beautiful scenery along the way. Although we're definitely still trying to get used to this humidity! #californiapeeps #humidityiskillingus
