Halloween and Thanksgiving in Okinawa

After my trip back home to California, I arrived in Okinawa just in time for some Halloween festivities.  Naturally, I wanted to find a costume where I could wear my comfortable monkey onsie with Nate, so we decided on Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat.  :)  To kick things off, we had some friends over for a pregame before heading out to our friends Halloween party on base.

My friends Kareena and her husband Alex really took things to the next level with their Alice in Wonderland (roles reversed) zombies.  And she put the make up and costumes together herself!  #what?! #talentedbetch

A week after I was home, Nate had to head back to San Diego for a week for work.  After I dropped him off at the airport, our friends Kareena, Alex, and some of their hasher friends invited me to come hang out at the seawall and watch some UFC.  #sundayfunday  We spent a fun day hanging out watching the fight, and enjoying the sunshine on the Sunabe seawall

Two days before Nate and I left for Korea, we celebrated our last friends Thanksgiving in Japan (next year we get to be back with family!)  Kareena and Alex hosted and we went with a less traditional Thanksgiving meal - but it turned out bomb!  We started things off with some delicious homemade Sangria, Champs, and some appetizers - Nate and I added to the festivities baked brie with a pomegranate cranberry sauce.

Kareena and Alex made a delicious pork shoulder roast stuffed with machego, feta, dried cherries and bacon - covered with a chipotle guave glaze - this turned out so damn delicious #whoneedsturkey?!  For sides they made chorizo apple cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, black beans, and french bread.  We topped dessert off with a sweet potato casserole and I made a pumpkin cheesecake.  We ate like royalty that night!

Naturally, after 5 gallons of sangria and multiple bottles of champagne - we had to finish the night with some karaoke!

It sucks being away from family during the holidays but it helps to have awesome friends (and ones that can cook!) to hang out with as a substitute :)
