About a week after getting back from Kyoto - Nate and I headed over to Thailand to spend Thanksgiving week! (Had to find someone to take our minds off being away from family. #lifeisrough) We had a stopover in Hong Kong airport but overall easy flight. We arrived in Bangkok around 7pm and headed over to our hotel for the night, Rambuttri Village Inn - only about $25 for a room and breakfast in the morning. Right around our hotel was a little walking street with food vendors, restaurants, massages, etc. So we explored a bit; enjoyed some delicious dinner (I had Tom Som O - a Thai salad with peanuts, shrimp and pomelo), and got cheap foot massages for 30 mins to end our night. The foot massage only cost us about $5. #heaven Normally I try and make Nate do this for me for free - but I figured I'd give him a break while we were in Thailand ;) #goodhusband #luckywife The next day we took a tuk tuk around to a few temples before our flight out to Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, we later learned that this was a tourist scam where they say the main temples are closed until the afternoon (Wat Pho, Grand Palace) - take you to a few temples, and then try to get you to buy a custom made suit. Nate ended up getting a custom shirt for cheap (which did turn out nice) but bummed we missed the two temples we wanted to see since we thought they were closed. At least we got to see a few spots before we left though! #touristscam #wefellintothetrap #iwastooexcitedtoquestionit The first stop on our way was to the Wat Intharawihan, home of the 32 m tall Buddha statue (105 ft). Also grabbed a yummy coconut drink (for only $1) for our ride. #lovethailand After that we headed over to Wat Somanas Vihara where the Lucky Buddha is. Next stop - Wat Benchamabophit - The Marble Temple. This spot was very pretty. All the temples in Thailand seem to be so detailed and ornate - beautiful! This spot also had a courtyard surrounded by 52 different statues of buddha from around the world, different cultures, and posed in a variety of ways with different meanings. After our 'nice' detour to the suit store - we stopped for a quick lunch before our trip to the airport. We ate lunch at the Rak Rak restaurant (rak means love in Thai). This is where I first got to experience tom yum kung (tom yum soup with shrimp). It's a spicy tomato/coconut soup with lemon grass, mushrooms, tomato, and shrimp in it. DEEELISSHH! I ended up eating this dish 6 out of 8 days in Thailand #obviouslyhatedit Also, we learned some Thai from our tuk tuk driver. "Saw wa dee ha" - means hello and "Ka buun ka" - means thank you - female saying it and "Ka buun Kak" is thank you for males saying it. You also hold your hands in prayer form and bow when saying it as a sign of respect. #gettineducated Follow in our Footsteps:
